Week 8

Hello!
So, apparently it's supposed to snow on Sunday or Monday? That has to be one of the most upsetting things I've heard in a long time. We've had nice weather, don't steal it from me!

This week, there isn't really much to talk about besides the short essay that we wrote, but there is one thing I feel worth mentioning. The short essay itself didn't really give me any trouble to write up, it was a pretty short and simple one. What gave me a lot of trouble at first was just picking a topic to base the essay on. Maybe it's because I'm not really passionate about a lot of serious issues in our world, but whenever we have complete free reign to write about whatever we want, I usually struggle coming up with a topic. Especially in a case like this where it should probably be about some event that actually matters, and not an essay about whether or not I want butter on my toast. I was able to narrow it down to something after a little bit of brainstorming (something that actually affected me personally, which is why I grabbed onto the idea) but it's always something I've struggled with. Which is strange, you think absolute freedom to come up with a topic would make it so much easier, but maybe I just like having some basic guidelines to go off of.

I've gotten into a bit of a groove with my schedule (at least until I start this new job...which I'm still not sure when that's happening) so it's more of the same. I generally write this journal last when it comes to my work for this class, so I guess I'll just decide if I want to stick with this topic about college for the actual sermon, or if I want to change it. Besides that, it's just working on other class stuff, maybe advance stuff for my own personal projects, and that's just about it.
Until next week!

Week 7

Hey everyone! Here's a secret from me to you, I hate cold weather. A lot. So it suddenly warming up is really nice, and I love it! Some people might be disappointed that the winter was short and there wasn't a whole lot of snow, at least up in Vermont, but I'm certainly not one to complain about it. Give me all that warm weather!
Until it starts causing serious climate problems, then it might need to be toned back a bit.

As for this week, just about everything regarding the Medieval Sermon was news to me. I was aware of what a sermon was and what it entailed, but I didn't know of the specific parts that made them up, namely the Protheme, Exemplum, and the Peroration. Having heard plenty of sermons before, having attended church for quite some time, it was very fascinating to think back to those and see how these three aspects applied to all of them. There was a coherent structure to them this whole time, and I somehow didn't notice and figured it was just something that you just kind of write. Sure proved me wrong.

I don't have a whole lot to write home about the rest of this week. Outside of doing work in other classes, I did find myself a much better job that won't eat up all of my time, meaning I can still focus on school (thank goodness) but that's still getting set up, so there isn't a whole lot to add about it. I guess I'll just enjoy this nice weather while it's around and take it from there.
